How we verify offers

Couptic tracks promo codes and deals for 4,569 online stores. This page explains exactly where those offers come from, what we check, what we do not check, and who is responsible for each part of the process. If anything here stops being true, we change the page.

Where the offers come from

Every offer on this site arrives from a merchant feed supplied by an affiliate network the retailer works with. We do not accept reader submissions, we do not copy listings from other coupon sites, and nobody at Couptic types an offer in by hand. That rules out the most common source of dead codes on coupon sites, which is a stranger pasting a code that never worked.

Two kinds of offers appear here:

  • Codes. You copy a string of characters and paste it into the promo code box at checkout. On our pages the code stays hidden until you ask for it, so the page you read is never a scrape target for bots that harvest codes.
  • Deals. No code is needed. The discount applies through the link itself, so the button takes you straight to the retailer. We only list a deal when the offer states what you actually save, such as a percentage, a dollar amount, or free shipping above a threshold.

What checking means here

Once a day, every store page on Couptic is matched against the current merchant feed. That process is automated, and we say so plainly because the wording matters:

  • An offer that is still in the feed stays on the page, and the page records the date it was last matched.
  • An offer that has left the feed is retired the same day. It moves out of the live list immediately.
  • A retired offer stays visible under Recently retired for 60 days, clearly labeled, because a retired code sometimes still works at checkout. After 60 days it is deleted.
  • Every store page carries a short log of its last few checks: how many offers were matched, how many were added, how many were retired. Those numbers are generated from the check itself, not written by hand.

What we do not claim

We do not place test orders to confirm that each code works at checkout, and we will not tell you that we do. Retailers change terms, exclude brands, and cap discounts without notice, so the honest statement is narrower: we confirm that an offer is currently published by the retailer through its affiliate network, and we tell you when we last confirmed it.

We also do not publish star ratings for stores, because we have no genuine reader reviews to base them on. We do not invent expiry dates. When an offer arrives without one, the page says there is no end date listed rather than guessing.

Who is responsible

The matching is automated. The judgment is not. Each store page is maintained by the writer who covers that category, and their name appears on the page. They write the notes explaining what kind of codes the retailer issues, when discounts tend to widen, and what trips people up at checkout. Those notes are edited before they publish.

Our data reports are written by the data desk from the same tracker database, and every figure in a report carries the date it was measured.

When a code fails

Codes fail for ordinary reasons: a minimum spend you have not reached, a first order restriction, an excluded brand, a single use limit, or an offer that expired between our last check and your visit. If a code on this site fails for you, use the report button on the store page. Reports go into the desk queue and are handled on the same day. An offer that fails twice is removed.

How we make money

When you use a link on this site to visit a retailer, we may earn a commission on what you buy. That commission never changes which offers are listed or the order they appear in, because the list is built from the feed and sorted by how useful the offer is, not by what it pays. Stores that pay us nothing are listed on the same terms as stores that do. Our affiliate disclosure explains the arrangement in full.
